I am in love with Detroit. The people, the neighborhoods, the museums, the storefronts, the grim, the urban gardens, the attitude, the atmosphere, the churches, the nonprofit organizations, the youth, and the culture. Being in Detroit is a feeling of home and a feeling of knowing my purpose and passion in life.
I am a sophmore at the University of Michigan creating my own major in Urban Planning and Community Organizing through the Independent Concentration Program. By 2013, I am planning on recieving my Urban Planning Masters at UM through the CUGS program at which point, I will finally move to Detroit.
I am a Youth Group Director at First United Methodist Church in South Lyon, Michigan. I am in charge of planning the weekly activities for 30 Junior High students, 20 Senior High Students, and 13 Confirmation Students. I am thinking about attending seminary some day for urban ministry.
I love winter sports and hot chocolate. I like talking to strangers. I wouldn’t mind being mayor of Detroit when I’m 50 or above. I enjoy beaches and foreign countries. I don’t sing well but I sing often. I admire my two older brothers and both of my parents. I love good music ranging from country to rap to techno to christian contemporary. I wish I read the news more often. I don’t watch TV. If I won the lottery, I’d give 98% of it to my favorite charities and 2% to my parents so they could retire finally. I love my boyfriend Benjamin and his puppy Duke.
